A More Time Efficient Workout

As a personal trainer, I hear a lot of excuses why people can’t workout regularly but without a doubt the biggest complaint is not enough time. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get good results. Here are some great tips that will help you get your workout done in no time flat.

Applying Sherrington’s law - Sherrington's law states that when a muscle contracts, its antagonist or opposing muscle must relax. This sounds weird but it means that when you do a pushing movement, you can immediately go over and do a pulling movement with little fatigue because those pulling muscles were forced to relax in your last exercise.

Train movements, not muscle – Muscle group training is becoming more and more a thing of the past. Instead, some of the world’s most respected personal trainers and strength coaches now prefer training movements. Here they are and if you do them you’re guaranteed a full body workout.

    1. knee specific
    2. vertical press
    3. vertical pull
    4. horizontal press
    5. horizontal pull
    6. rotational
Remember, when it comes to exercise, methods are many but principles are few.
Remember, these principles to keep your workout short and sweet.

Question from viewers:

Deb
I am extremely heavy. So much so that any type of activity at all hurts my joints. How do you recommend that I start losing weight?

Stacy
My child is about 10 pounds overweight. I want to encourage activity but I work until 5:30 so all he does when he gets home is sit and play video games. Is there something I can do to start developing a habit for exercise?
